Through an individual analysis and consultation, a spa technician can successfully educate the consumer on healthy skin practices, preventative and awareness issues.
Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer. It is estimated that in 2007, there were 8,110 fatalities, 5,220 in men and 2,800 in women in the U.S. The number of new cases of melanoma is estimated at 59,940; of these, 33,910 will be in men and 26,030 in women.
Every hour of every day, someone dies of melanoma in the US. Melanoma, the fastest growing cancer. Melanoma strikes people of all ages, all races, all economic levels and both sexes. Melanoma is the primary cause of cancer death for women 25-29 years, and number two (after breast cancer) for women 30-35 years. In 1940 the risk of developing melanoma in one’s lifetime was 1 in 500, in 1980 1 in 250, in 2003 1 in 75 and it is estimated that by 2010 it will be 1 in 50!
When melanoma is detected early, essentially a 100% survival rate I guaranteed; when melanoma reaches Stage W, the median life expectancy is 6 months.
There have been no significant advances in medical treatment or survival of melanoma in the past 30 years.
In 2007, the MRF used 88% of its funds for research grants and awareness programs.

- To support medical RESEARCH for finding effective treatments and eventually a cure for melanoma
